SE Nebraska AHEC
We are a new healthcare education resource located in Beatrice, Nebraska, ideally situated to deliver services in our 17-county region. SE-AHEC’s goals are to recruit and retain health care professionals in Southeast Nebraska’s underserved and rural communities. To achieve these goals, we partner extensively with other organizations in the area, including public health departments, hospitals, educational service unites and resource centers, local health providers, Chambers of Commerce, K-12 grade schools, and two and four-year colleges and universities.
Some of our signature events will include: community health care fairs for students and adults; health occupation fairs for students; 8th-grade regional science meets; classroom presentations for students ages through K-12; youth summer camps; continuing education for health providers, students and teachers; job shadowing for high school students; and health professions student rural health rotations. We also work with pre-health professions students at the undergraduate level and are involved with other distance learning and career counseling opportunities.
The Southeast Nebraska Area Health Education Center is also a resource for health concerns and issues that impact the communities in our service area. And best of all, our services are free to the communities we serve!
Southeast Nebraska AHEC is a non-profit organization, and receives federal funding through the University of Nebraska Medical Center. It is one of five Area Health Education Centers in Nebraska. The other centers are located in Grand Island, Norfolk, Scottsbluff and Omaha. SE-AHEC’s coverage area includes the following counties: Polk, Butler, Saunders, Cass, York, Seward, Lancaster, Gage, Johnson, Pawnee, Richardson, Nemaha, Jefferson, Thayer, Otoe, Saline and Fillmore counties.
